Margay Racing LLC
Founded by Elmer Freber in 1964 originally as Mar-Kart, Margay Racing is based in St. Louis, Missouri, and has a rich history in the karting industry. The company initially gained recognition for a patented quick-change gearbox invented by Freber, which served the rapidly growing racing kart market. Expanding beyond drivetrain components, Freber acquired the King Kart company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1966 and began producing complete karts, marking the evolution of Mar-Kart into Margay Products.
Named after the agile wildcat related to the small jaguar, the Margay kart is capable of reaching speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Margay’s early innovations include the ‘New Breed’ kart, designed specifically to work with their quick-change gearbox, and the ‘Sidewinder’—the first production kart to mount the engine beside the driver rather than behind, resulting in a lower center of gravity and improved handling.
Today, Margay offers a range of chassis lines such as Ignite, Brava, X2, and Wildcat Kid Kart, all designed and manufactured in-house in the U.S. The company emphasizes durability, accessible pricing, and strong community support, maintaining a prominent presence in Midwest sprint and endurance kart racing series.

I love reading the introductory on these businesses. I was always a fan of smaller engines working on them when I was a young boy and helping my mom work on Harley Davidson engine’s. I am from Spokane Washington. Here in Spokane it is legal to drive gocarts, 4 wheelers, golf arts and electric vehicles around town as long as you are responsible. What are the odds I could obtain one of your smaller carts but big enough to pull a small trailer of around 500lbs. I’m putting together a small business and I could use one of your carts. I’m not looking for speed although speed is nice but not practical for what I want it for. For a solid year I’ll promote your logo all of the cart and one logo sticker on the roof top of my trailer. I’ll mention your name and introduction of your business in my videos that I post online for the first opening 3 months of my business.
Thank you for your message and for sharing your background with us. We’re glad to hear about your interest in small engines and your plan to start a local business in Spokane.
Yes, we do have compact carts that focus on torque and practicality rather than speed, and towing a small trailer around 500 lbs may be possible depending on the configuration and usage conditions. We’d be happy to learn a bit more about your needs and recommend a suitable option. Pls tell me your WhatsApp number for a faster talk.
We also appreciate your interest in promoting our brand — thank you for the support. Please feel free to reply with more details, and we’ll take it from there.
Best regards, Wewin Go Kart
